Adverbs modifying adjectives
You should be able to identify the part of speech of every word in the following sentence except very:
- “We followed a very narrow road.”
- If you ask yourself just what very does in the sentence, you will probably notice that is modifies narrow. It tells how narrow the road was. You know that narrow is an adjective because it modifies that noun road. Very modifies an adjective. A word that modifies an adjective is an adverb.
