Poetry Skits Project
Each group of students will be assigned a poem from the Modern Poetry Anthology. They will then do the following:
- Students are assigned a section poem of between 20 and 40 lines (or whole poem for shorter ones) and asked to read it and share their reactions
- Students must create a skit that uses the language of the poem.
- Students must create some narrative frame for their skit; three kids in the back of a bus, two elderly people on a front porch talking to a grandchild, etc.
- Students may add language, and scramble language of the poem, but must use all words in original poem.
- All students must have parts
- A discussion of the poem follows each skit
Links to the excerpts are here. You should cut and pasted from the excerpts into a shared Google Doc to create your skit with your group. All language assigned from the poem must somehow be incorporated into your skit. It is fine if it doesn't make too much sense--many of the poems don't! The goal of the assignment is to have fun playing around with the language, and to make it seem fun or funny to your fellow classmates.
